Sweetheart! Reviews

Moviesda Reviews
Sweetheart feels all over the place, with a messy plot, inconsistent tone, and too many subplots that don’t quite fit together. Rio Raj and Gopika Ramesh do their best with solid performances, and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is a nice touch, but the film never really comes together as a compelling love story. It tries to tackle modern relationships and pre-marital pregnancy but ends up feeling disjointed and more confusing than engaging. In the end, Sweetheart doesn’t quite live up to what it could’ve been. I will rate the movie 2.5 stars out of five stars.
Critical Reviews
Abhinav Subramanian of The Times of India rated the movie two stars out of five stars and finds Sweetheart a messy, aimless rom-com, comparing it to a drunken stumble. Vasu, the emotionally distant lead, spirals when his girlfriend Manu announces her pregnancy, setting off a tedious string of flashbacks and clumsy schemes.
Sluggish pacing, flat humor, and odd character choices—like a nosy child spy—make it hard to stay engaged. Despite strong performances from Rio Raj and Gopika Ramesh and a solid score by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film ultimately misses the mark on both romance and comedy.
Sreejith Mullappilly of The Cinema Express rated the movie two stars out of five stars and sees the Sweetheart! movie as a missed opportunity, weighed down by clichés and weak storytelling. It starts with a breakup, setting up a predictable “will they, won’t they” arc, but never develops its characters in a compelling way. Vasu’s fear of parenthood leans on an overused backstory, while Manu’s loyalty to him feels undeserved, especially after his toxic moments.
The film’s nonlinear structure adds little, only making it drag. Despite strong performances from Rio Raj and Gopika Ramesh and a decent soundtrack from Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sweetheart! ultimately feels shallow and forgettable.
Anusha Sundar of OTTplay rated the movie two stars out of five stars and sees it as a messy and inconsistent film that bites off more than it can chew. It tries to explore modern relationships and pre-marital pregnancy but gets tangled in unnecessary detours and cluttered subplots. Vasu’s backstory feels cliché, and Manu’s devotion to him doesn’t quite add up.
The film can’t decide if it wants to be serious or silly, making it hard to stay invested. While Rio Raj and Gopika Ramesh give solid performances and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is a highlight, Sweetheart ultimately falls flat as a love story.
Audiences Reviews
The Sweetheart! movie got good reviews from audiences. Over 100 people rated the movie 8.3 stars out of 10 stars on IMDb, which are good reviews but can be fake as reviewers are very low.
